4. Be ready before the big moments happen.
Don’t wait until everyone starts singing “Happy Birthday” to find your camera. Get into position beforehand. The candle blow, cake cutting, surprise entrance, or big reaction may only last a second.

5. Remember to photograph the people—not just the decorations.
